Years 7 and 8 are a great time for students to challenge themselves and maximise their learning. The Selective Entry examination provides an avenue of expression for those who can raise the bar high in terms of academic achievement.
Lower Secondary
We, at Melbourne Tutorials, have extensive experience in guiding students towards academic excellence through Selective Entry examination preparation, based on conceptual enrichment and rigorous practice. Special emphasis continues on the various test components, worked under conditions that mirror the actual examination.
Years 9 and 10 also provide avenues for Selective Entry admission, for those displaying perseverance and single minded commitment.
During this phase students consolidate life skills related to self management, organising, following a study routine, and working with peers.
Individual children's learning needs are addressed by placing them in compatible learning groups for an optimised learning experience.

Not every student at this level is sitting the examination. Both streams are taught in academically compatible groups by qualified teachers.
Selective Entry
The selective entry curriculum is extensive in content, a minimum of one year ahead of the year the student is currently in. Every test component is drilled under timed conditions that mirror the real assessment.

Normal curriculum
We also run parallel classes for students who wish to study the normal curriculum, at the same standard of teaching and in the same academically compatible grouping, without the examination preparation on top.

Each one is taught, then practised to time, then practised again. Speed and accuracy are trained together, because the examination tests both.
Session duration.
Sessions lengthen at this level, because the examination itself is long and the stamina has to be built somewhere.
